LA County Designates June 28 as LA Pride – Christopher Street West Day
SUPERVISOR LINDSEY P. HORVATH LEADS THE MOTION
Los Angeles, CA – June 28, 2025 – Christopher Street West Association (CSW), the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has produced the historic LA Pride celebration for more than 55 years, was acknowledged and honored today as the original, founding Pride nonprofit of LA County by proclamation by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

In her Motion to declare June 28 this, and every year, “LA Pride-Christopher Street West Day” In LA County, County Supervisor and longtime LA Pride champion, Lindsey Horvath wrote:
Los Angeles Pride has a rich and vibrant history in Los Angeles County. On June 28, 1970, Christopher Street West (CSW), a nonprofit organization based in Los Angeles, organized the world’s first permitted LGBTQ+ Pride parade, marking the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots in New York City, and forever changing the trajectory of civil rights history.
The inaugural march down Hollywood Boulevard was a courageous act of resistance against widespread discrimination and systemic oppression, and it represented a powerful assertion of visibility, dignity, and pride by LGBTQ+ Angelenos. For 55 years, LA Pride, under the leadership of Christopher Street West, has grown to become one of the largest and most influential Pride celebrations in the United States, welcoming hundreds of thousands of attendees annually and serving as a beacon of inclusion, celebration, and advocacy.
LA Pride continues to uphold the legacy of the original marchers by promoting equity, representation, and justice for the LGBTQ+ community through community programming, public education, and civic engagement.
Amid these difficult times for LGBTQ+ Angelenos and Americans, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors recognizes the profound cultural, historical, and social contributions of the LGBTQ+ community in Los Angeles and reaffirms its commitment to equality, dignity, and human rights for all residents.
We all owe a debt of gratitude to CSW co-founders Rev. Troy Perry, Morris Kight, and Rev. Bob Humphries for ensuring that Los Angeles stood up for LGBTQ+ civil rights, and now LA holds an important place in LGBTQ+ global history.

Today, LA Pride still holds the annual celebration in Hollywood, on Hollywood Blvd. In 2025, 135 Parade contingents marched in front of over 100,000 spectators, with CSW’s television broadcast partner, ABC7-KABC winning its time slot for their live news coverage of the Parade. LA Pride is still LA strong.

LA Pride 2026 will be our 56th year, and take place on SUNDAY, June 14, 2026 with other dates added as needed.
The Board of Directors of CSW would like to thank Supervisor Horvath, and the entire Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for this distinguished designation.
